Severe Storms Delay Start of School in Northwest Indiana & PC3

The start of the school year has been delayed following a powerful round of severe weather that swept through Northwest Indiana on Tuesday, August 11th.

The National Weather Service described the event as a preliminary derecho, with destructive winds reaching nearly 100 mph in parts of Northwest Indiana. The storm brought widespread tree and power-line damage, blocked roads, heavy rainfall and flooding across the region. Local reports and videos showed the extent of the damage, including downed trees, damaged property and widespread power outages throughout communities across the Region. The National Weather Service also documented numerous reports of significant wind damage from the storm.

Because of the ongoing effects of Tuesday's severe weather, the Career Center remains closed. All vocational classes were canceled Wednesday, August 12th, Thursday, August 13th and Friday, August 14th as crews and communities continue cleanup and restoration efforts.

At this time, no new school start date has been announced. Students, families and staff are encouraged to stay tuned to all official social media channels for the latest information regarding when school will begin.
