PC3 Awards
Since the mid 2000's, PC3 has been a proud member of the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters. Under the leadership of former instructors Mr. Bob Phelps, Mr. Dallas Milligan and Mr. Matt McLindon, the Porter County Career and Technical Center's radio and tv program has taken home several awards from the IASB's prestigious ceremony, including "Indiana Television School of the Year" on four separate occasions! In 2023, Morgan Township senior Ava Gheaja was the first student from the "PC3 era" to take home a state title, as she earned a first place plaque for live radio personality while Evan Short received an honorable mention in the short film category. In 2024, PC3 students received awards in several categories including Valparaiso's Lana Cantu (live radio finalist), Chesterton's Ethan Markwart and Kouts' Max Gudeman (honorable mention, short film), Evan Short (honorable mention, short film) and Valpo's Jadon Woods (honorable mention, original radio drama.). In 2025, PC3 added 5 more awards to their collection including a first place win for Valpo's Owen Heeren (original radio drama), a third place for live sports coverage for our Valpo vs. Chesterton sectional crew along with honorable mentions from Washington Township's Asher Vander Woude (cinematography), Valpo's Francesca Plata and Jude Parker (short film) and Valpo's Christopher Boehringer (adapted radio drama). During the 2025-26 school year, PC3 earned a record (PC3 era) 10 awards at IASB including Gianna Zikkos' first place for radio interview and Max Wojciechowski's 2nd place finish for music video. PC3 students have also taken home awards in other contests such as the Broadcaster Educator's Award for live sports coverage in 2024 (Kouts Basketball Sectional) and Evan Short's recent $1,500 prize in the Heartland Film Assocation's short film contest for his film, "Purgatown."
